FA Cup Third Round: Newcastle United Predicted Lineup vs Bromley

Newcastle United produced the perfect away performance against Arsenal at the Emirates in their Carabao semi-final first leg to earn a two-goal lead before the tie is concluded at St James Park early next month. They turn their attention now to the FA Cup where Bromley have adapted well to life in League Two, their debut season in the Football League. They will surely face a home side that’s likely to make as many as eleven changes to the starting lineup.

How Newcastle United Have Lined Up Recently

When your focus is on qualification for the Champions League and winning the Carabao Cup during a hectic schedule, this tie offers Eddie Howe the chance to make wholesale changes to his starting lineup. Howe believes in the depth and quality of his squad and will stick to his 4-3-3 set-up. Odysseas Vlachodimos should get a rare chance to start in goal, his debut coming as a half-time substitute for the injured Martin Dubravka in an earlier Carabao Cup round when the Magpies beat Wimbledon by a goal to nil in October.

Kieran Trippier started but couldn’t finish the ninety minutes in that impressive win at Old Trafford against Manchester United and is likely to aim for a full ninety minutes in this one. Similarly, Matt Targett should get his second game of the season as left-back. Lloyd Kelly and Fabian Schar will play as the central defensive partnership. Schar has already amassed more than two hundred appearances for the club while Kelly has played alongside Dan Burn often this season.

Expect to see Lewis Miley, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock in the middle of the park. All three can play in Eddie Howe’s strongest eleven. Willock played just over an hour against Arsenal before Longstaff replaced him. These players can be trusted to give their all in the hope of playing more regularly but these minutes offer vital game time if they are to be brought in due to injury or suspension.

Another couple of used substitutes at the Emirates were Miguel Almiron and Harvey Barnes and both would offer the type of service to who is likely to be the focal point in attack, William Osula. Newcastle United have taken a chance on Osula, signing him from Sheffield United for a modest £10million in the hope they can develop him into another talent like Alexander Isak. Osula has yet to score for the Magpies, today would be ideal for him to get off the mark.

Newcastle United Recent Form

These two sides have never met before and despite the anticipated wholesale changes, Newcastle United will be expected to win comfortably against their League Two opponents. The home side are in exceptional form, winning the last seven games in all competitions. Expectations are high on Tyneside and so they should be. This is a city desperate for success.

Newcastle United Injuries to Consider

This was the perfect draw for Eddie Howe at this stage of the competition. Rather than be concerned about pushing his recognised starting eleven against a top-class side and risking injury, a home fixture against lower-league opposition is an opportunity for others to show what they can do. There’s no chance his players will switch off with so much at stake this season.

Bromley will be no pushovers, however. They have settled well into their first season in League Two, sitting just six points adrift of a play-off spot with no concerns about being involved in any relegation battle. In Michael Cheek, they have a striker who has impressed with thirteen league goals to his credit this season. If he gets a chance, the Magpies could be in trouble.
