Newcastle United Predicted Lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur for January 4

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle Utd will look to continue their excellent recent form when they travel to take on Ange Postecoglu and his Spurs side. Both teams have tremendous attacking flair, don’t be surprised if this is a goal fest. Spurs are always likely to concede goals as well as score.

How Newcastle United Have Lined Up Recently

The improvement that Eddie Howe sought from his team can be seen in the last few results. After drawing with Crystal Palace and losing at Brentford, scoring freely against Leicester, Ipswich and Aston Villa means the Magpies go into this one on the back of a thoroughly convincing win at Old Trafford against a sorry Manchester Utd. Not a single goal conceded in those four games indicates how much Newcastle have improved.

This season, The Premier League could have a couple of surprises in the top four. Newcastle fear no one as they continue their charge up the table to be involved in Champions League qualification.

Eddie Howe sets his team up in a flexible 4-3-3 where the wide players of their front three, Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon, get through a tremendous amount of work. Both offer an attacking threat but are never shy to drop back into midfield to make it difficult for the opposition to have space to make passes. Helping out defensively is also part of what they offer as team players.

In midfield, the chemistry and understanding between Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton gets better with every passing week. Quick, clever passing between them is the trigger for the front three to make themselves available off the ball. In Alexander Isak, they have one of the most exciting attacking talents in Europe. Every Geordie will realise that qualification for the Champions League and any immediate future success means the Swede must stay on Tyneside. Interest from Arsenal and others is to be expected but Newcastle have a gem here. Losing him would be a massive blow to their hopes and dreams of being involved with the elite.

The foundation for their recent run of excellent form can also be attributed to their defensive work. No goals conceded in their last four outings is a sign that they can also win games where fine margins can determine whether it’s one point gained or yet another win. A test of the strength in depth will be asked for this one, Eddie Howe forced into making at least two changes.

Newcastle United Injuries and Suspensions

Eddie Howe will be compelled into two defensive changes for this one. Kieran Trippier started in the victory at Old Trafford but seemed to pick up a recurrence of the hamstring strain that kept him out recently. Tino Livramento is a more than capable replacement at right back having played more often than not this season. Centre back Fabian Schar picked up his fifth yellow card of the season at Old Trafford and will also miss out.

Lloyd Kelly has played enough times this season to know what’s required and also had five years at Bournemouth where Eddie Howe improved him as a player. Nick Pope, Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Emil Krafth and Callum Wilson remain unavailable.
