How Chelsea Have Lined Up Recently

Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen continue to rotate goalkeeping duties. The back four has seen Marc Cucurella, Renato Veiga, Malo Gusto, Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Tosin Adarabioyo, briefly Moises Caicedo, and Josh Acheampong start across the back line in various combinations.

In midfield, Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Cesare Casadei, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Sam Rak-Sayki have started in the deeper positions. Pedro Neto, Jadon Sancho, Tyrique George, and Noni Madueke are battling it out for the wides lots while Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku tend to start as the attacking midfielder through the centre.

Nicolas Jackson is the first-choice striker while Marc Guiu plays in European clashes.

Chelsea Recent Form and Tactics

Enzo Maresca has continued to use his possession-dominant 4-2-3-1 into a 3-2-4-1 with the occasional tweak on positioning being the main change. There’s nothing like the 4-1-4-1 seen against some of the weaker European competition. Cucurella has most recently been asked to move into an attacking midfield spot alongside Palmer, something Gusto was asked to do against Everton but came up short.

The Blues are on a great run all things considered, undefeated since a Carabao tie in October they’ve only drawn three times since then, winning every other match. They don’t get kept scoreless a lot, the weekend’s scoreless draw with the Toffees being their first time drawing a blank in 15 fixtures.

Defensively, there are still issues but a clean sheet at the weekend indicates that this is a defence capable of putting up a wall and keeping the opposition at bay, the real challenge now will be stringing such performances together.

Chelsea Injuries to Consider

Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile remain sidelined while Maresca confirmed that Romeo Lavia also won’t be ready for the London Derby. Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended.
