United Pushing Hard To Sign Young Left-Back Leon

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Red Devils are now working hard to sign the 17-year-old left-back to become a part of their future project. The journalist also claims that they are in active talks with Paraguay club Cerro Porteno for the teenager, seemingly to sign him in the 2025 winter transfer window.

Romano also adds that United are planning to pay around £3.1 million for Leon’s signing and are discussing the details of the deal with his agents. A comparison is drawn to the deal for Sekou Kone, another talent for the future who arrived for a low fee.

Who Is Diego Leon?

The 17-year-old has attracted interest from scouts with his impressive performances for Cerro Porteno, who play in the top division of the Paraguay national league system. The teenager has already broken through into their senior team and made 19 appearances for the club, scoring two goals in his appearances as well.

The youngster has been described as a “Physical Specimen” in an article that also mentions interest from Arsenal and Manchester City in the defender. He is said to play with maturity and possesses lightning quick pace.

Leon is yet to represent Paraguay at the international level, but is clearly attracting interest for his performances at the club level. Even if the Red Devils sign him in the January transfer window, he won’t be able to move to England before the summer window because of rules preventing Premier League clubs from signing under-18 players from abroad.

The Paraguayan left-back has been praised as someone with “immense potential” and is being eyed for someone who can make an impact in the future, with United also reportedly prioritizing the signing of a senior left-back in 2025 because of the injury problems faced by Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
