Manchester United finally picked up their first win in Europe in the 2024/25 season with a compelling 2-0 win over PAOK recently. Following that, they have provided some promising news on the long-awaited return of experienced defender Luke Shaw.
Manchester United Confirm Luke Shaw’s Training Return
What Is The New Update On Shaw?
The English left-back has had a very frustrating 2024 so far and has not played for the Red Devils since their win over Luton Town in February 2024. He picked up a knock in that game that forced him to miss the remainder of the 2023/24 season. Despite playing for England in Euro 2024, he picked up another injury in pre-season and has failed to make a single appearance this season. The 29-year-old now looks to be nearing a return to action alongside his fellow defender Leny Yoro.

Manchester United have given a promising update by confirming that Shaw is now back training with the first-team squad. Their statement read: “Manchester United’s squad received another boost on Friday, with the news that Luke Shaw is back training with the main group. He will continue working back towards full fitness during the international break, as he looks forward to making his return to the team in coming weeks.”
Shaw Eager To Impress Ruben Amorim
Incidentally, the 29-year-old defender’s return to full fitness will be just in time when new head coach Ruben Amorim takes over. The Portuguese coach will assume his role on November 11 and as per Fabrizio Romano, he and his staff will assess the left-back’s situation after arriving at Old Trafford.
Even though Shaw might not have played a match for the Red Devils in many months, this is his perfect chance to raise his match sharpness and train like a monster to impress Amorim. Despite his injury-prone nature, the Englishman remains one of two natural left-back options in the United squad alongside Tyrell Malacia. Shaw is one of the most experienced members of the Red Devils squad, having made 275 appearances for them in which he’s provided 28 assists.

The full-back, who is rumoured to earn £200,000-a-week wages at Old Trafford, faces a stern challenge to win over Amorim as well as challenge for his positions from the likes of Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui. He could possibly benefit if the new head coach implements his 3-4-3 system, as Shaw played as a left wing-back for England under Gareth Southgate and even scored in the Euro 2020 final against Italy in that role.
