Manchester United delivered a bombshell after their recent 2-1 loss to West Ham United by confirming that Erik ten Hag had left his role as their manager. Ruud van Nistelrooy is the interim head coach for now, but the Red Devils appear to be on the verge of appointing a new manager in Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim.

How Much Must United Pay For Amorim?

It’s stated that he will begin his journey at Old Trafford during the upcoming November international break and that documents will be signed this week to finalize his move to the Premier League giants.

The journalist also adds that Amorim will be signing a contract that runs up until 2027. But the Red Devils will need to pay a hefty compensation package if they want to appoint the 39-year-old anytime soon. Romano reveals that the compensation amount for top clubs is around £8.3 million along with an extra £837,000 for his support staff as well as to neutralize his 30-day notice period issue.
This might not seem that much at first, but United have also reportedly had to pay £15 million in compensation to Ten Hag after relieving of his duties earlier than expected.
What Can Amorim Bring To United?
Amorim has been held in high regard by top clubs around Europe and was reportedly considered by Manchester City as a long-term Pep Guardiola successor too. He already has an impressive record at the age of 39, having only started coaching in 2018.

That includes having won all nine of their league games in the 2024/25 season, with 30 goals scored!
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler recently hailed him for making Sporting play “incredible football”, with Amorim encouraging an exciting attacking style that has resulted in a lot of goals and multiple championships for his current side.
