How Bayern Munich Have Lined Up Recently

Last time out against Stuttgart, Bayern began with the same 11 that had played the previous Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt, meaning Manuel Neuer was in goal. Alphonso Davies and Raphael Guerreiro took up their positions on the flanks of the back four. Meanwhile, Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano played in the centre of the defence.

Aleksandar Pavlovic joined Joshua Kimmich in the holding midfield positions, as Serge Gnabry, Thomas Müller, Michael Olise and Harry Kane made up the front four.

It was the first time this season that coach Vincent Kompany started two consecutive games with the same players, albeit the international break was between those two matches.

Bayern Munich Recent Form and Tactics

As noted above, Bayern of course ended their three-match winless run at the weekend, with a seemingly easy victory. It must be added that the first two of Bayern’s four goals against Stuttgart came just either side of the 60-minute mark. The game could have easily gone either way before that. Overall, Bayern have seven wins, two draws and one defeat in all competitions this season.

Unfortunately, that one loss came in the Champions League against Aston Villa, which puts added pressure on the Bavarians here.
Kompany’s style of trying to control any match Bayern play has generally been successful. The big question will be to what extent he will try to do the same in an away game against a team like Barcelona and a coach like Hansi Flick, who knows Bayern like very few others do. This game will be one of the most anticipated matchups of the entire league phase of the Champions League this season.

Bayern Munich Injuries to Consider

Hiroki Ito, Sacha Boey, and Josip Stanisic remain out for this game. On the bright side, they are all expected to be back soon. Unfortunately, Pavlovic was injured early in the Stuttgart match and will be out for some time. Meanwhile, Jamal Musiala is expected back in the squad for Wednesday, though a start against Barcelona is unlikely.
