How Manchester United Have Lined-up Recently

The Red Devils have lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation recently, with André Onana in goal.

Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot have been mainstays at the back, with Manuel Ugarte and Christian Eriksen rotating alongside Kobbie Mainoo.

In attacking midfield, Captain Bruno Fernandes has been ever-present, flanked by two of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo.

Joshua Zirkzee has been replaced by Rasmus Hojlund as United’s starting striker.

Manchester United Recent Form and Tactics

Erik ten Hag’s side have broken records at the start of this season, but sadly all the wrong ones. Just eight points from their opening seven games and two solitary wins against Fulham and Southampton have seen the 13-time Premier League champions make their worst-ever start to a season in the competition’s history.

Tactically speaking, the problems of last season have persisted, with the team struggling for goals (Just five so far) and also looking wide open in midfield, with new signing Manuel Ugarte so far struggling to plug the gaping hole in the middle of the park. In defence, things seem to have improved somewhat, with former Ajax teammates André Onana (Three clean sheets) and new signings Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs De Ligt making relatively positive impressions.

If the Red Devils are to begin to climb the table, they will need to improve drastically in midfield, introducing composure to their game in order to build up as Ten Hag wants. Up front, the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes will need to find their shooting boots, the United forwards having missed a staggering 17 big chances so far this season.

Manchester United Injuries to Consider

Mason Mount (Knock), Luke Shaw (Leg) and Tyrell Malacia (Knee) are hugely doubtful for tomorrow’s clash, with Harry Maguire (Calf) and Kobbie Mainoo (Thigh) both having been declared unavailable for a couple of weeks. Manuel Ugarte (Muscle) sustained an injury whilst on international duty with Uruguay and, coupled with the long journey back from South America, will be unavailable for the Brentford tussle. Lény Yoro (Ankle) is expected back next month.
