Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs Liverpool for October 20

Empty Stamford Bridge

This is a Chelsea predicted lineup as they return from the international break to take on fellow high fliers Liverpool. Enzo Maresca and Arne Slot are both new to the league but both have made an instant impact which will make this one all the more interesting.

How Chelsea Have Lined Up Recently

There’s been a noticeable split between the usual eleven that starts in the Premier League and the side that sets out in cups and Europa Conference League matches. The ‘A-Team’ of sorts has Robert Sanchez as the starting goalkeeper with a back four of Malo Gusto, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, and Marc Cucurella.

The midfield pairing of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo with Cole Palmer operating as an attacking midfielder who occasionally drops deeper to pick up the ball. The attacking trio has been Nicolas Jackson as the striker, Jadon Sancho on the left and Noni Madueke on the right.

The ‘B-Team’ if you could even call it that given the talent involved has Filip Jorgensen as the goalkeeper. The back four is Renato Veiga, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Axel Disasi. Cesare Casadei has come in as the defensive midfielder partnering a free-roaming Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The front four of Mykhailo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix, and Pedro Neto has proved to be effective.

Chelsea Recent Form and Tactics

Maresca has remained true to his fluid 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 formation with Gusto inverting to partner Caicedo at times with Fernandez pushing up. The other two midfielders can push up or drop depending on the scenario. Against weaker teams, things are a bit more attacking with the team looking more akin to a permanent 3-2-4-1, although Veiga was pushed so high against Gent he was almost another attacker.

This has been working as the team has only lost twice all season, one being to the mighty Manchester City and the other being a laboured loss to Servette. The goals have been flowing with the Blues netting 17 times in their last five outings. The only issue is their leaky defence which has failed to keep a clean sheet in the last three attempts, they even let in two against a mediocre Gent side.

Chelsea Injuries to Consider

For the first time in a long time, there are no first-teamers injured. Maresca even confirmed that Reece James and Romeo Lavia are available for selection. The only absences are the suspensions of key starters Cucurella and Fofana for yellow card accumulation.

There will be two enforced changes but there could be a third in midfield. With both Caicedo and Fernandez travelling from South America during the week, the Argentine could be rested here with Lavia getting his second start of the term.
