'Agreement in Principle': Top Chelsea Target Set for Shock Transfer, Waiting for Green Light: Victor Osimhen

Chelsea’s top target, Victor Osimhen, is a step closer to joining Galatasaray on a loan transfer from Napoli after the Nigerian striker failed to secure a move away on August 30.

Napoli Willing to Allow Departure for Striker

Di Marzio has this afternoon (September 2)  revealed that Napoli are currently in negotiations with Galatasaray for Osimhen, who was the subject of what looked like a certain transfer to either Chelsea or Al-Ahli on August 30. However, after hours of tense negotiations, neither team could prise the 25-year-old out of Naples, with the Saudi side eventually settling on Ivan Toney, leaving the Blues without the clinical number nine they had been after for most of the summer.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that there is an “agreement in principle” between the two clubs for a loan move, with salary covered. The buyers will meet Osimhen to get the final green light in the next few hours.

Victor Osimhen and Napoli No Longer on Good Terms After Chelsea Saga

Following the August 30 drama that saw Chelsea fail to secure a deal for Osimhen, Romano reported that the relationship between the forward and the Italian side had been “broken“, with Napoli telling the player that he would no longer be part of the first team if he failed to secure a transfer away before the day’s end.

No move materialised, which prompted Gli Azzurri to “exclude” Osimhen from their Serie A squad list and give his number nine shirt to new signing Romelu Lukaku, who joined the club from Chelsea following his own fallings-out with the London side.

Galatasaray Will Be Getting a World Class Number Nine

Should Napoli and Galatasaray agree to let Osimhen join the Turkish giants on a deal for the rest of the season, fans of the Istanbul-based outfit will be grinning from ear to ear. While their team already contains top players such as Mauro Icardi and Dries Mertens in the forward area, Osimhen is in a different league to those names.

At 25, he is about to arrive into the prime years of his career and with 76 Serie A goals to his name – including a 32-goal haul in 2022/23 as Napoli won Serie A for the first time in 33 years – he will surely take to the Turkish league like a duck to water. He will hope that he can secure himself that long-awaited move to a top club next summer, bringing to an end his fractured relationship with Napoli.
