Marc Guehi Remains At Crystal Palace

Guehi Never Wanted To Leave

Reporter Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the 24-year-old centre-back will stay this transfer window. The Eagles manager Oliver Glasner stated, “He (Guéhi) always told me that he’s not pushing to leave Crystal Palace”. Glasner also congratulated the ownership group who stayed strong during negotiations and have kept a rising talent at the club.

Romano has also reported that the South London side have signed French centreback Maxence Lacroix. The Italian journalist gives the “here we go” on a deal that reconnects the Wolfsburg defender with his former manager.

The Rise Of Marc Guéhi

Guéhi remains at the team which he joined for a fee of £20 million from Chelsea in the 2021 summer transfer window. The defender has played in 100 games for Palace in the Premier League over his three seasons.

His rise did not go unnoticed by former England manager Gareth Southgate as he was selected in the Three Lions squad for the Euro 2024 tournament. The Ivory Coast-born defender started in six of the matches including the final against Spain.

Newcastle Change Focus

The Magpies now need to shift their focus if they are to sign a centre-back in this transfer window. The club’s current partnership of Fabian Schär and Dan Burn are both on the wrong side of 30 and the Tyneside club look to rejuvenate their defence.

They lost both Sven Botman and club captain Jamaal Lascelles to ACL injuries last season. Currently, their only other fit centre-back option is Lloyd Kelly who they signed on a free transfer from Bournemouth this transfer window. Newcastle conceded 62 goals in the last Premier League campaign and have made no major improvements on a defence that currently lacks depth.
