Medical Today for USMNT ‘Star’

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the South London club are set to sign the talents of former New England Revolution goalkeeper, Turner, with a “medical today” after they “agreed a deal”. He is set to replace Sam Johnstone who left for Wolverhampton for a fee of £10 million this transfer window.

The English goalkeeper made 20 appearances for The Eagles in last year’s Premier League season. He kept six clean sheets leading to a 30% clean sheet rate, ranking fifth among qualified goalkeepers. This is despite having the third-worst save percentage (62.7%) in the league.

Goalkeeper Competition at Crystal Palace

Turner joins a club with a promising young backline and will be competing with Dean Henderson for the starting position. Henderson started 18 games in the 2023/24 Premier League season, keeping four clean sheets.

The “UMSNT star” moved after one season at Forest where he faced competition from Matz Sels for the starting position. The Belgian keeper was signed by the East Midlands club in the winter transfer window and was named the starter for the rest of the season. Before losing the starting role, Turner kept just two clean sheets in his 17 Premier League starts.

Joining Palace provides a new opportunity for Turner if he is to claim the number one shirt. Starting behind a centre-back partnership of Marc Guehi and Maxence Lacroix provides a good foundation for any goalkeeper. The club is looking to climb the table after keeping some key young players in the squad.

Over the summer, Turner participated in the Copa America. The American started the first two games before suffering an injury that saw him miss USMNT’s final group-stage match against Uruguay. The Stars and Stripes lost 1-0 and were knocked out disappointingly.
