Midfielder Has Struggled to Impress New Manager

Fabrizio Romano has given the “Here We Go” for Ward-Prowse’s in-league switch to Nottingham Forest, with rumours around the transfer first circulating earlier this week following the 29-year-old’s failure to hold down his starting spot for the Hammers under new manager Lopetegui.

Under David Moyes in 2023/24, Ward-Prowse completed 90 minutes in 28 of the 37 league games he played. Under Lopetegui however, he has featured in just one of the first two league matches, playing 16 minutes off the bench in a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa.

The new Spanish manager has seemingly favoured a midfield three of Tomas Soucek, Lucas Paqueta and new signing Guido Rodriguez, who the Hammers picked up from Real Betis with the trio all starting against Villa and Crystal Palace.

Fresh Start in Order for Ward-Prowse

Ward-Prowse’s exit from the London Stadium will no doubt be a big shame for West Ham fans, with big things expected of the England midfielder. He was seen to be the one to change the identity of the Hammers midfield, but in football change can often bring unexpected surprises.

After making 52 appearances in all competitions last season, playing just 16 league minutes this season will be a shock to the system for the 29-year-old, so a change of scenery could do him some good to get himself back to the level he was performing at last campaign.

Ward-Prowse will be Forest’s 9th signing of the summer and even though he will be moving on loan, manager Nuno Espirito Santo will be thrilled that the club have managed to persuade the “technically gifted” player to make the switch to the City Ground, as Forest look to remain in England’s top flight for yet another season.
