Arsenal Face Huge Blow: ‘Amazing’ Star in Crutches as Manager Deals Gutting Injury Update: Martin Odegaard

Arsenal are looking towards an exciting end to the 2024 summer transfer window and might be looking for ways to reshuffle their goalkeeping department too. They are now actively working on completing the signing of Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia.

Arsenal Make First Transfer Bid for Joan Garcia Signing

How Much Must Arsenal Pay to Sign Garcia From Espanyol?

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Gunners have produced their first offer to the La Liga club to sign their promising goalkeeper before the transfer window closes on August 30. He claims that they have offered them a transfer fee package of £16.8 million to sign the 23-year-old this summer.

The journalist also adds that agents Juanma Lopez and Andy Bara have brought the bid to Espanyol and that this fee is inclusive of potential add-ons too. However, Romano claims that Espanyol are asking the Premier League heavyweights to trigger Garcia’s £25.2 million release clause in order to sign him. He adds that the Spanish goalkeeper has agreed terms with the Gunners and wants to join them before the transfer window ends.

This comes after Arsenal have reportedly agreed terms with Southampton to sell Aaron Ramsdale. This means that the club needs a no.2 goalkeeper at their helm, with Mikel Arteta aiming to bring in a young player in Garcia to be David Raya’s back-up going forward.

What Can Garcia Bring to Arsenal?

Espanyol manager Manolo Gonzalez admitted defeat in deciding the 23-year-old goalkeeper’s future when he spoke about it after his side’s recent 0-0 draw against Atletico Madrid, saying: “I can’t do anything. If they pay the clause, we can’t do anything. If someone wants him, they should pay the clause. I can’t say any more”.

Garcia has already kept a clean sheet and only conceded two goals in three La Liga appearances this season. He kept eight clean sheets in 14 La Liga 2 games last season, proving his quality as an excellent shot-stopper and also one who can move the ball around efficiently. His impressive performances over the last year have caught Arsenal’s attention, with Arteta looking eager to rope in a new goalkeeper before the window shuts.
