FPL Tips: Three Goalkeepers You Need to Have for Gameweek 3

Could Arsenal's Mid-Season Break Prevent Another End-of-Season Collapse? - Opinion

The Premier League returns this weekend with another set of exciting matches such as Newcastle United vs Tottenham and Manchester United vs Liverpool. Last Word on Football brings you three goalkeepers who should feature in your Gameweek 3 squad, with the FPL deadline set for 11:00 AM BST on August 31.

Three Goalkeepers to Select for FPL Gameweek 3

David Raya (£5.5m)

David Raya has been the standout keeper of the first two game weeks. He made stunning saves against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa, leading to pundits describing him as world-class. It’s no wonder he leads the FPL shot-stoppers’ form-based rankings with a score of 9.

He is quite comfortable dealing with crosses and corner kicks, thus eliminating any aerial threat the opposition poses. With a defence comprising of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, another clean sheet should be easy to achieve against Brighton & Hove Albion.

If Raya continues with his form, his FPL value will soon shoot up, making it difficult to bring him into the team in the future. Selecting him now would thus be a clever decision.

Emiliano Martinez (£5.0m)

Emiliano Martinez is yet to keep a clean sheet this season. However, that shouldn’t deter FPL contestants from selecting him for Gameweek 3 if they are seeking an option in the mid-price range.

On Saturday, Martinez faces Leicester City, who are yet to win a game this season. The Argentine should have a comfortable afternoon against the Foxes. Even if Jamie Vardy manages to get a shot on goal, the Villa keeper can be expected to save it expertly, as he did with Bukayo Saka’s shot in the 16th minute against Arsenal.

Mark Flekken (£4.5m) – A Cost-Effective Option for Gameweek 3

Mark Flekken can prove to be a wise option for gameweek 3, especially due to the nature of the side he will be facing. Brentford’s opponents, Southampton, are yet to find their shooting boots after failing to score in both league games of the new campaign.

This is despite the Saints playing against Newcastle United with an extra man for more than an hour. Against Nottingham Forest, they had just five shots, with only one on target.

Should Southampton forwards endanger his goal, the Brentford keeper wouldn’t be shaken. He has made 12 saves so far in the league. The above stats should give enough encouragement for Flekken, his defenders, and the FPL teams that are to select him.
