How Chelsea Have Lined Up Recently

Enzo Maresca has put his big squad to use with a host of changes being made to keep players fresh in this early run. Robert Sanchez is the first-choice goalkeeper while Filip Jorgensen is getting to deputise in other competitions. Marc Cucurella, Levi Colwll, Wesley Fofana, and Malo Gusto make up the primary back four with Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarbioyo, and Renato Veiga making up a hybrid back three/four otherwise.

Moises Caicedo has played in every match so far for the Blues with Kiernan-Dewsbury Hall, Christopher Nkunku, and Enzo Fernandez featuring alongside him. Romeo Lavia played the opening day clash with Manchester City but hasn’t featured too much since.

A formation switch has seen Nkunku and Fernandez play as 8/10 hybrids but Cole Palmer was the lone central attacking midfielder against Wolves, Mykhailo Mudryk, Pedro Neto, and Noni Madueke have featured out wide while Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu split striker duty.

Chelsea Recent Form and Tactics

After starting out with a fluid 4-3-3 system that was more akin to a 3-2-4-1 in possession there’s been a tweak form Maresca, first with the inverted fullback and wingers being abandoned for inside forwards with the wing-backs keeping width and then to a 4-2-3-1 that was used in the 6-2 win this past weekend.

One thing is for certain, the Italian is not a one-trick pony despite any worries from his time managing in the Championship. Despite this flexibility results weren’t going too well but they now have two wins on the bounce and that could quickly snowball into a run of form if they can win this leg.

Defending still appears to be an issue after letting in two goals on the weekend, marking back-to-back Premier League ties where they’ve conceded twice. Servette were also offered some golden opportunities to score last Thursday and can’t possibly get any more wasteful.

Chelsea Injuries to Consider

During his pre-match press conference, Maresca confirmed that Lavia and Reece James are injured while Neto and Gusto set to miss out due to load management of sorts. Joao Felix also joined after the registration date and won’t be available for this tie.

Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs Servette

There is likely to be heavy rotation once again as the manager focuses on the Premier League. With a two-goal lead on aggregate, the pressure won’t be on to score which should allow some fringe members to get some time.
