Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the status of Ugarte after he was left out of PSG’s squad for the second week in a row ahead of their Ligue 1 game against Montpellier. The journalist states that this is because the Uruguayan midfielder’smove to Old Trafford is now in thefinal stagesand an agreement is on the verge of being reached.

This comes after the journalist had reported the details discussed between the two sides to get this deal over the line before the end of the 2024 summer window. Romano stated that the Red Devils want to proceed with signing Ugarte on loan for the 2024/25 season and then permanently signing him in 2025. He added that recent meetings between United and PSG have been positive, raising optimism that this transfer should be concluded soon.

When Could Ugarte Start Playing For United?

Ugarte might not have played any matches for PSG since returning from the 2024 Copa America campaign, where he helped Uruguay reach the semi-finals, but he has been training hard to keep himself sharp. If the Red Devils can get this deal over the line before deadline day (August 30), he should be ready to feature in their highly anticipated game against Liverpool at Old Trafford on September 1.

But for that, Erik ten Hag’s side has to complete the deal and get him registered into their Premier League squad as they’vedone with their other signings like Joshua Zirkzee, Noussair Mazraoui, Lenny Yoro (who is injured) and Matthijs de Ligt. Ugarte, who was hailed asmagnificent by PSG boss Luis Enrique last season, is being eyed by the Red Devils to be competition for Casemiro in that no.6 spot in the starting lineup. The 23-year-old made 37 appearances for the French side last season and has earned a reputation for being a sturdy, intelligent defensive midfielder capable of breaking down opposition attacking moves efficiently.
