‘Here We Go!’ – Bournemouth Set to Recruit ‘Promising’ Barcelona Full-Back

'Here We Go!' - Bournemouth Set to Recruit 'Promising' Barcelona Full-Back

Fabrizio Romano reported this morning that Julian Araujo will join Bournemouth from Spanish giants Barcelona. This is a huge piece of business from the Cherries.

Julian Araujo Swaps Barcelona for Bournemouth

Details of the Deal

Romano gave his famous ‘Here We Go!’. He continued, detailing: “Araujo will travel later today as medical tests will be completed on Monday”.

In terms of finances, this will widely be perceived as a great piece of business made by the Cherries transfer team. “Barcelona will receive €10m fixed fee, no buy back and no sell-on clause”. It is not a huge fee for an exciting player, and no sell-on clause is huge as Bournemouth could well sell him for a large profit in the future.

The Blaugrana will be keen to replace the money that was splashed out on Spain star Dani Olmo. Bournemouth have made their big sale in Dominic Solanke, but the focus on incomings is unlikely to end after Araujo’s arrival.

Who Does This Financial Package Benefit?

The lack of clauses surrounding this deal can be viewed from both perspectives. From a Cherries point of view, it’s a straight forward deal with no later payments. Perhaps due to the profit they received from the Solanke transfer, their FFP / PSR compliance allows higher spending in this window.

From Barcelona’s perspective, they remain in financial troubles, therefore getting £10 million up front would most likely be more suitable than receiving it over a few years in instalments and add-ons.

Julian Araujo Ready for Premier League Opener?

Jack Tanner of EchoSport revealed this morning that “if all goes well and to plan” the “promising” Araujo “could be in training with the team as soon as Tuesday”.

This would give Andoni Iraola a few days to work with the former LA Galaxy star before travelling to Nottingham for their opening Premier League fixture.

It is yet to be seen who would be first choice, with Adam Smith and Max Aarons both vying for the same spot as Araujo. It’s certainly a good headache to have from Iraola’s point of view. His side take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on August 17.
