Manchester City have been linked with Dani Olmo this summer, but the Euro 2024 winner reportedly has his sights on Barcelona this summer.

Dani Olmo ‘Wants to Join’ Barcelona

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Barcelona “feel Olmo wants to join them”. The Catalan side are waiting for Nico Williams to inform them of his final decision on whether he will join. However, Barcelona are keeping in contact with Olmo’s management as they believe that being “ready with talks active” could be key to securing a signature, should the Williams deal fall through.

The Italian journalist also reports that fellow European giants Bayern Munich have had the player on their list since May. Meanwhile, despite Manchester City having interest in the Spaniard, they have not submitted a bid or even had talks with the player yet.

What Can the Spaniard Bring to Barcelona?

Despite Olmo’s best position being an attacking midfielder, and him mostly playing there, the player labelled “incredible”  by Pep Guardiola would likely slot in at left-wing under Hansi Flick. He brings a different dynamic to Barcelona’s alternative target, Williams, who has fantastic speed and a strong shot on either foot.

Olmo would be an excellent creative outlet, making inverted runs and picking out the perfect final pass. Despite Robert Lewandowski’s underwhelming recent form, the once world-class striker could certainly be relied on to finish the high-quality chances that Olmo would consistently create.

The one area that the 26-year-old may let Barcelona down in is goalscoring. He’s averaged less than six goals a season since joining RB Leipzig, and his highest output for Dinamo Zagreb was just 12. The Blaugrana didn’t exceed expectations in front of goal last campaign, only equalling their expected goals. With right-winger Lamine Yamal only scoring seven, a more direct left-winger may be preferred – though Williams has similar numbers.
