Man Utd Will Have to Stump up £42 Million Fee to Complete Latest Signing

'Green Light': Manchester United Authorise Sale of 'Special Talent' Mason Greenwood

Manchester United are accelerating their plans to strengthen the squad ahead of the start of the 2024/25 season after having already signed Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.  It now looks like they are pushing for the signing of Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.

How Much Must United Pay For De Ligt?

Bild’s Christian Falk has reported that the Bundesliga side have rejected the Red Devils’ offer to sign the 24-year-old centre-back. He claims that Erik ten Hag’s team were ready to offer around £29.4 million for the Dutch defender but that figure does not meet Bayern’s valuation.

Falk adds that the German heavyweights have made it clear that they will demand £42 million plus add-ons to sanction the sale of De Ligt. They have already notified the Premier League giants of this. It’s stated that “negotiations between the clubs continue” as they are both definitely interested in getting a deal done.

What might work in United’s favour is that Falk hints that Bayern will need to first sell players before being able to make any more acquisitions this summer. They have already brought in Michael Olise from Crystal Palace and Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, as major signings this summer.

What Did Bayern President Say About De Ligt’s Future?

Bayern Munich’s president Uli Hoeness recently acknowledged that his side needs to sell players before being able to make signings and made an interesting statement on De Ligt’s future, saying: “No more players will come unless two or three players leave first. Max Eberl and Christoph Freund know full well that no one will come unless one or two prominent players leave. The FC Bayern has no money-wasters. “It is possible that a defender will still leave. De Ligt is Dutch, the coach at Man Utd is Dutch. I would have no problem if he stays. Personally, I would not sell Upamecano.”

De Ligt has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Red Devils and is keen on reuniting with Ten Hag, who gave him his breakthrough opportunity at Ajax. The Dutchman helped Bayern keep seven clean sheets in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season and seems to be looking forward to a new chapter in his career.
