‘Contract Terms Discussed’: Manchester United Secure Agreement With ‘Wonderful’ Midfielder

How Manuel Ugarte Fixes Manchester United's Biggest Problem

Manchester United have been making progress in their transfer business in the 2024 summer window, recently confirming the signing of Leny Yoro from Lille. But it seems that they are ready to make their third signing and have taken positive steps in their pursuit of PSG’s Manuel Ugarte.

Are PSG Open to Selling Manuel Ugarte?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Red Devils have now agreed personal terms with the Uruguay midfielder and the player has voiced his desire to join them in the summer window. The journalist also adds that there have been “contract terms discussed” between the two parties and that the 23-year-old is keen on a move to Old Trafford despite the lack of Champions League football next season.

It’s also stated that United are now actively involved in club-to-club talks with PSG for the midfielder’s transfer after other clubs have also inquired about the possibility of signing Ugarte. Romano states that the player is represented by Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes, who also represents Leny Yoro and shares a good working relationship with the Red Devils.

Romano also claims that PSG are open to letting their midfielder leave because they want to sign Benfica’s Joao Neves at all costs. They are discussing the transfer fee terms with the English side, while also maintaining negotiations for Neves’ signing. It’s now upon Erik ten Hag’s side to find a middle ground with the Ligue 1 side and agree on a transfer fee before they can sign the talent.

What Can Manuel Ugarte Bring to Old Trafford?

Ugarte is being eyed by the Premier League heavyweights because of their need for a quality defensive midfielder who can replace or at least compete with Casemiro, whom the club are reportedly looking to sell. The midfielder excels in the deeper midfield role, being able to win the ball back in key areas, outmuscle opposition players with his physicality, and protect his backline against trouble.

He recently enjoyed a solid Copa America campaign, helping Uruguay secure a third-place finish and defeat Brazil in the quarter-final. He was hailed as a “wonderful” player by PSG boss Luis Enrique last season and made 37 appearances for them, providing three assists. Ugarte should bring more energy and aggression to the Red Devils’ midfield line, but whether United are able to complete this deal on their own terms remains to be seen.
