Chelsea ‘Well Placed’ in Transfer Race to Sign ‘Amazing’ Euro 2024 Breakout Star

Nico Williams talks with Spain team-mates Joselu after Euro 2024 win

Chelsea have been racing to strengthen their squad ahead of the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season and have already made multiple summer signings. But it seems that they are also ready to pounce on the potential signing of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.

How Much Would Chelsea Need to Pay for Williams?

The Athletic’s Adam Leventhal has reported that the Blues would love to sign the young winger after seeing him play such an important role in helping Spain win the Euro 2024 title and scoring in the win over England in the final. It’s added that Chelsea have done their groundwork on Williams and were impressed with his performances for the Spanish side last season.

Leventhal writes that the 22-year-old is high on Chelsea’s list of potential summer targets as the club looks to bolster the left-wing position. The London heavyweights believe that they are “well placed’ in the transfer saga involving Williams. But Chelsea are also aware that Barcelona are eager to sign the winger, who is said to favour staying in La Liga. Williams is reported to have a £50 million release clause in his deal, which can be triggered by any club to sign him as long as they have an agreement with the Spain star.

Who Else are Chelsea Interested in?

Chelsea are yet to sign any out-and-out striker in the summer transfer window but have been linked with quite a few options. They are reportedly interested in signing Atletico Madrid’s young forward Samu Omorodion to bolster their frontline, but their links to Napoli forward Victor Osimhen have failed to transpire into anything concrete. At this point, Chelsea appear to be still assessing their options before moving forward with the transfer plans.

The Blues have already made several signings this summer. This includes bringing in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City, as well as improving their future core with the Brazilian young sensation Estevao Willian and Barcelona forward Marc Guiu. But Chelsea realize that an exciting winger like Williams, who was hailed for his “amazing” job in Spain’s Euro 2024 win, can help them form a devastating frontline that teams will fear. The 22-year-old winger scored two goals in Euro 2024 for Spain and had a brilliant 2023/24 season with Bilbao, scoring eight goals and providing 19 assists across all competitions.
