Arsenal are looking to raise funds from the sale of fringe players and have now identified defender Nuno Tavares as a sellable asset, particularly to suitors Lazio.
Negotiations Ongoing for Nuno Tavares to Be Sold to SS Lazio
What Are Arsenal’s Demands?
According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal are in negotiations to sell left-back Tavares to Lazio. Whilst the Gunners hope to receive around £7 million, the offer from Italy is around £5 million to £6 million. Despite the slight difference in valuation, the Serie A club is confident of wrapping up a deal for the defender.
Arsenal are also demanding that a sell-on clause be added to the deal. The player’s potential is well-recognised in North London and the club hope to receive a windfall from any future transfer.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Arsenal have accepted the final proposal of a loan with obligation to buy, with the fee around €7 million. Negotiations are still ongoing with his agents for personal terms.
Why Is Tavares No Longer Required at Arsenal?
Tavares arrived at Arsenal as a youngster with a bright future. However, his poor defensive capabilities saw him fail to nail down a spot in the starting lineup.
Soon Tavares was shifted out on loan, initially to Marseille and then to Nottingham Forest where he spent the 2023/24 season. While he was in France, it was reported that the Portuguese had annoyed the coaching staff with his inability to follow instructions.

Similar complaints were heard during Tavares’ time at Arsenal. Manager Mikel Arteta is known for his strictness in disciplinary matters, as former club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found out to his detriment a few years ago. Hence, the 24-year-old’s exit has almost become inevitable – even if not to Lazio.
The “bombastic” player has also been criticised for his unpredictability and rashness during matches.
Moreover, Arsenal have enough left-backs and have also been targeting Riccardo Calafiori for the position. Playing time will become scarce for Tavares, and a sale would suit all parties involved. Apart from Lazio, Dutch club Ajax have also shown interest in the former Benfica man.
