Marseille have held initial talks with Manchester United over a potential deal to sign Mason Greenwood. The club is keen on cashing in on the forward this Summer, but are yet to receive any formal bids.
Marseille ‘Exploring Deal’ for Manchester United Forward, Mason Greenwood
Club Desperate to Sell
David Ornstein reports that Marseille are exploring a deal to sign Greenwood, and have held initial talks with the player’s club. Although finances are yet to be discussed, there was “positive dialogue” and it is believed the forward would favour a move to the French outlet “over other options at present”. Manchester United have reportedly made it a “priority” to sell the 22-year-old, as they believe the transfer could help with FFP regulations and could fund further incomings this summer.

With De Zerbi recently appointed as the new manager, the board have wasted no time in preparing the squad for next season. The club is already finalizing deals for Ismael Kone from Watford and Lilian Brassier from Brest, and the imminent sale of Iliman Ndiyae to Everton has opened up space for a new attacker. An addition like Greenwood could add game-changing finishing qualities to elevate the Marseille attack.
No Formal Bids Made Yet
Despite a successful season on loan with Getafe, no clubs are in a rush for Greenwood’s signature. He played 36 times for the Spanish side, recording 10 goals and 6 assists. His performances earned him the club’s Player of the Season award.
Additionally, the La Liga president, Javier Tebas, spoke highly of the Englishman, describing him as a “great player”. He hopes that he “continues to be successful and he continues to stay in Spanish football”.
Similarly, the Getafe president, Angel Torres, was also pleased with the player’s performances, revealing that he could stay for “one more year”. However, it is believed that Manchester United want to sell the player permanently, so another loan move is unlikely.

Barcelona are another club linked with the English-born talent in the past, but they have shifted their attention to other targets and are not interested as it stands. Therefore, Marseille could be Greenwood’s best bet this Summer.
