Borussia Dortmund ‘Keep Insisting’ on Deal to Sign ‘Difference Maker’ Attacker

Borussia Dortmund Keep Insisting on Deal to Sign 'Difference Maker' Attacker

Borussia Dortmund are persevering in their efforts to sign “difference maker” striker, Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart.

Dortmund Continuing To Push For Guirassy

Striker Position A Key Need For The Club

With Niclas Fullkrug and Sebastien Haller the only true out-and-out number nines at the club, it is understandable why Dortmund and new manager Nuri Sahin are after Guirassy. Squad depth at the top level for any club is key and the addition of the Guinea international could be a perfect one for the Black and Yellows, especially with Haller scoring just three goals in all competitions in 2023/24.

Guirassy’s Bundesliga Record

Guirassy’s first taste of German football came in 2016 when he joined Koln from Lille, his goal total during his three years in Westphalia being just nine in 45 appearances.

Fast forward five years and the Guinea international was back. He joined Stuttgart initially on loan in September 2022 from Rennes in an attempt to add some firepower to manager Pellegrino Matarazzo’s squad, and despite hitting 11 league goals (14 in all competitions), the Germans were almost relegated from the 22/23 Bundesliga, only surviving by beating Bundesliga second division side Hamburg in a play-off match.

Guirassy’s impressive campaign at the Stuttgart Arena saw him rewarded with a permanent move to Die Schwaben in May 2023 and from that point on, there was no looking back.

The 28-year-old, managed at this point by Sebastian Hoeness, scored 14 in his opening eight league matches of 23/24, including hattricks against Mainz and Wolfsburg as Stuttgart made their presence felt in an attempt to erase the previous season from their memory.

14 more goals and two Bundesliga Player of The Month awards later, Guirassy’s best league tally of his career helped Stuttgart to 2nd place in Germany’s top division, the club’s best finish since they finished 3rd in 2008/09. However, his impressive form was unlikely to come without rumours linking him with moves away and that is exactly what began to happen.

Dortmund’s Interest

The Black and Yellows are keen on signing Guirassy, who according to Fabrizio Romano has a release clause worth £15 million, a steal for a striker who has just come off a season where he has scored just eight league goals less than Harry Kane’s total of 36. As of the morning of June 18, Romano revealed that Dortmund are continuing to push for Guirassy as a “priority signing, the club said to be waiting for the green light from the striker with regards to the contract and project proposals.
