Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: Wins, Clean Sheets and Playoffs

Oxford United

Oxford United and frustrating weeks have gone hand in hand recently but it’s been a successful seven days for the U’s.

Des Buckingham’s side have picked up comfortable wins in League One and moved back into the top six as a result.

However, there is some worrying injury news ahead of the final four league games.

Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: Back-to-Back 4-0 Wins

Oxford Sink the Cod Army

Oxford began the week with a 4-0 victory over strugglers, Fleetwood.

Cameron Brannagan gave the U’s an early lead before Mark Harris added a second.

Owen Dale notched his first Oxford goal before the break while Harris added his second late on.

This was the best win under Des Buckingham but with Lincoln winning again, his side remained outside the top six on goal difference.

Edwards Injury Extended

Oxford winger Kyle Edwards has been ruled out of the remainder of the season.

The former England U20 international, who joined the U’s on loan from Ipswich in the summer, picked up a hamstring injury in November but continued his rehabilitation with the club following his release from the Championship club.

As a result, Oxford signed the 26-year-old on a short-term deal until the end of the season, but he won’t feature again in this campaign.

Edwards scored twice from six appearances for the U’s.

Another Romp for the U’s

Oxford then matched their impressive display against Fleetwood with the same result on the road at Burton.

Mark Harris struck another brace before Josh Murphy and James Henry both calmly slotted past former U’s goalkeeper Max Crocombe.

The only negative will be losing Cameron Brannagan and Elliott Moore to injury, with Des Buckingham hopeful the duo will be available when the U’s welcome Peterborough next weekend.

Oxford moved back into the top six after Lincoln – the team the U’s face after the Posh – dropped points at Reading.
