Liverpool are focused on a grand finale to Jurgen Klopp’s reign as manager and hope to clinch the Premier League title ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal. However, they’re still looking to find a replacement for Klopp to take over after he leaves, and there has been an update on the future of Ruben Amorim.
Liverpool Target Ruben Amorim Makes Statement On Future Stance
What Did Amorim Say About His Ambitions?
The Sporting CP manager is reported to be a front-runner to take over the managerial job at Anfield after the German gaffer steps down at the end of the 2023/24 season. After Xabi Alonso recently confirmed that he would stay at Bayer Leverkusen, Amorim refused to do something like that.

He recently spoke on his future when asked about potentially staying at the Portuguese side next season and answered: “I can NOT guarantee that I will stay at Sporting next season. I can’t say that like Xabi Alonso did. We have time to discuss my future, we will do that at the right time. Now focus on winning titles and then we will see what happens.” The 39-year-old’s contract at Sporting CP is currently set to expire in June 2026, but there are means to get him away from the club before that. It has been reported that the Portuguese coach has a release clause in his deal, around £12.8 million, that can be activated in the summer.

Why Is Amorim Attracting So Much Attention?
The 39-year-old is working wonders with Sporting CP, who are currently sitting top of the Liga Portugal table. They have won 22 of their 26 matches so far, losing only twice and conceding as little as 26 goals, while scoring a whopping 77 goals. Amorim encourages a high-press, progressive attacking style and often uses his wide players and wing-backs to create chances, similar to how Liverpool plays.

He has already managed 204 matches as Sporting’s boss, winning 141 of those games and also helping them clinch the Liga Portugal once and the Portuguese League Cup title twice. The 39-year-old’s impressive work earned him praise from Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes earlier this season, as the midfielder said: “If he really takes the next step – I hope he stays at Sporting – but if he takes the next step, I think all the qualities are there to be able to succeed in English, French, or Spanish football. Obviously, we know that the Premier League is probably the most desired. The qualities [to succeed in England] are there and he has everything to take the next step, in my opinion.” Liverpool are likely to wait until this season is over before confirming a new manager to replace Klopp.
