Chelsea have had their share of difficulties in the 2023/24 season and that includes the unavailability of captain Reece James for the majority of the campaign due to injury. Amid this, a shocking report recently hinted that the club might be contemplating selling their youth academy star, which has now been clarified.

Recently, it was reported that the Blues might be looking to sell their club captain in the summer because of their desperate need to generate funds from player sales. This is to ensure that they are not charged by the Premier League and don’t face punishment like Everton and Nottingham Forest have this season, receiving a points deduction from the Premier League.

However, Fabrizio Romano reaffirms that “the situation is really quiet” when it comes to discussing the future of James at Stamford Bridge. He admits that the club need to make a profit by selling some players, but that the 24-year-old has always been considered an important part of Mauricio Pochettino’s project.
Romano adds that the club are currently fully focused on aiding James with his recovery from injury and committed to helping him be a success story.
What Is Happening With James?
James was handed the Chelsea captaincy at the start of the 2023/24 season after being one of the club’s most prominent players to come up through their youth system. Despite beginning the campaign well, the 24-year-old started struggling with injuries and was forced to undergo surgery on his hamstring in December.

The young full-back is currently touted to return to action before the season is over, even though there doesn’t seem to be any settled date on when he can be back. Chelsea have had their issues with injuries this season, with their summer signing Romeo Lavia already ruled out for the rest of the season because of injury troubles and Christopher Nkunku also being troubled with issues.
The Englishman, who has scored 11 goals and provided 21 assists in 156 appearances for the Blues so far, hasn’t shown any desire to leave his childhood club despite speculation over his future.
