Liverpool have been rocked by the recent revelation from Jurgen Klopp that he would be leaving the club at the end of the 2023/24 season and their club captain Virgil van Dijk worried some fans with his recent comments on his future at the club for the long-term.

After Liverpool’s crushing 5-2 win over Norwich City in the FA Cup fourth-round clash, the Dutch centre-back was asked if he can see himself being a part of the next era at Anfield once Klopp leaves and gave a surprising answer, saying: “That’s a big question. I don’t know.”

He also detailed the big job that the club’s hierarchy has on their hands to replace Klopp, adding: “The club will have a big job on their hands, that is well known. To replace not only the manager but the whole staff and there are so many things that will change. I’m very curious about which direction that will go in, but when that is announced we will see our situation.”

“It will be the end of Jurgen Klopp’s era – I am still part of it that’s why I don’t like to talk about it – and that is my main focus. Hopefully, we will have the success we all dream of and by then probably there will be more clarification about what the club wants for the future and then we will see.”

Is Van Dijk Going To Leave Liverpool?

Fabrizio Romano has addressed the concerns of Liverpool fans about Van Dijk potentially leaving the club in the summer, especially with his contract expiring in June 2025. He states that the Dutchman’s comments should not come as a surprise and is completely normal.

The journalist adds that with a new manager, new sporting director, and new coaching staff set to come in at Anfield next season, it’s impossible to know what is next for players whose contracts expire next year. Romano hints that the decision on the future of Van Dijk and players with contracts expiring soon will be made by the club after appointing a new manager and director.

Van Dijk, who was hailed as “unbelievable” earlier this season, has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season and helped them keep seven clean sheets and only concede 17 goals in 19 Premier League appearances to power their title charge this season.
