Tottenham Hotspur have begun 2024 by showcasing a lot of ambition in the transfer market and have already sealed the loan signing of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig to strengthen their frontline. When Could Spurs Sign Hackney?
The Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella reports that Tottenham are expected to join the race to sign the 21-year-old midfielder but that they will be forced to wait until the summer transfer window before being able to sign him. It is also added that Hackney is attracting attention from multiple Premier League sides like Manchester City and Liverpool.

Kinsella further claims that Middlesbrough are ready to receive summer offers for the midfielder, but have already sent a warning to interested parties that it will take a sensational offer for them to consider selling him in January.
Moreover, it’s also stated that the 21-year-old is in no rush to leave his childhood club after coming through their youth academy and is aiming to help them get promoted to the Premier League next season. The journalist adds that the Championship club will likely look to encourage a bidding war in the summer and that the Lilywhites are particular admirers of the midfielder.
What Could Hackney Bring To Tottenham?
Spurs have settled for lowering the average age of their squad under Ange Postecoglou, which is probably why they are interested in signing a talented young midfielder like Hackney. The 21-year-old has made 22 appearances for Michael Carrick’s side this term, scoring two goals, including one in a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Hackney, who was hailed as “hugely talented” by Carrick earlier this season, excels not only with his defensive work, but also moving the ball forward and occasionally contributing towards goals too. With Spurs recently extending the contract of Pape Matar Sarr, signing a hard-working domestic player like the Middlesbrough man can help add more depth to their defensive midfield role. But with multiple Premier League sides interested in him, the Lilywhites will have to work efficiently to sign him anytime soon.
