‘They Have A Chance’: Fabrizio Romano Drops Update On Everton’s Hijack Attempt For ‘Phenomenal’ Midfielder

Everton 'Star' Not Available: Everton Predicted Lineup Against Newcastle United for October 5

Everton are well aware of their need for more reinforcements in the squad to stay clear of the Premier League relegation zone this season and it appears that Sean Dyche’s side might be looking for a cheeky loan move for Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri.

Does Everton Have A Chance At Signing Hannibal?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Toffees are trying to hijack La Liga side Sevilla’s attempt to sign the Tunisian midfielder on loan for the rest of the 2023/24 term, even though the player has himself told the Spanish club he’d be interested in joining them.

The journalist adds that Everton approached Mejbri after he started discussions with Sevilla and the Merseyside club are ready to make a loan offer for him too. What is rather interesting is that Romano claims that Dyche’s side will keep insisting on this deal and that he feels that “they have a chance” at getting it done.

He further claims that it won’t be easy, but that the young midfielder’s deal for a loan in Spain is not done yet and will keep trying. What is more important is that Sevilla needs to agree on a deal with the Red Devils to finalize the loan spell, which they haven’t been able to do yet and this give Everton an opportunity to sneak in to get this done.

Are Everton Involved In Any Other Deals?

For the time being, it doesn’t look like the Toffees are looking to imminently sign any other player apart from the Man Utd midfielder. Romano claims in the same report that even though Amadou Onana is attracting interest from all over Europe, Everton’s preference is to sell him in the summer transfer window rather than the middle of this campaign.

The manager seems keen on adding a bit more energy and creativity to his squad in the form of Mejbri, who has mostly been used as a substitute by Erik ten Hag this season. The 20-year-old, who was hailed as “phenomenal” during his loan spell at Birmingham City last season, has scored one goal in five Premier League appearances this season – but was praised for his energy and hard-working nature earlier in the campaign.
