Jurgen Klopp embraces players after a win

Liverpool Get Back Player Whose ‘Performances Are Making People Take Notice’

Premier League leaders Liverpool had a strong start to the season. Top of their Europa League group, and currently atop the English top flight, Jurgen Klopp’s squad has only one weakness. Injuries to the backline have left them in need of defenders. January will be a crucial month for them to fix that problem. One player who fans might not have expected to see again this campaign could be the key to fixing the Red’s defensive woes.

Dundee Stint & Recall

James Pearce, The Athletic’s Liverpool Correspondent, revealed on the network’s Transfer News Live Blog that left-back Owen Beck was recalled from his loan to Scottish side Dundee FC. A graduate of the Reds’ academy teams, Beck has made a total of 20 appearances in Scotland during what was called “a productive first half of the season.”

According to Pearce, the injuries sustained by Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas played a major role in recalling the 21-year-old. Dundee deployed the youngster in most of their competitive fixtures, and the club’s statement on the news called the Welshman “outstanding on and off the field.”

Beck’s Career on the Rise

Unproductful loans to Familicao in Portugal and Bolton Wanderers domestically looked to suggest that Beck did not have a future with Liverpool. His time with Dundee, however, has revitalized his career. The Welshman was a regular for the newly promoted club. His time on the pitch helped anchor them into the middle of the table before his loan was recalled.

Earlier this season, another writer for The Athletic reported on Beck’s improved form. Andy Jones wrote an article stating that the 21-year-old’s “performances are making people take notice.” A call-up to the Wales U-21 team was also secured thanks to the successful loan to Scotland. Now, following months of poor luck, the left-back will be eyeing a potential first appearance for his senior squad.
