Manchester United are now fully focused on their performance in the English top flight. A disappointing European campaign, falling out to the likes of Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray, has left Erik ten Hag with a mandate to succeed in the Premier League. That is likely to happen without one of their most talented players, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
Jadon Sancho Could Leave United for Free

Recouping Costs
Ornstein covered his expectations for United’s January transfer window, set to start in less than two weeks. One of the names he highlighted was Jadon Sancho. The 23-year-old winger has been in exile ever since a disagreement between him and Ten Hag was never worked out. The Englishman reported in his article for The Athletic that “If the winger is not going to be reintegrated, United desperately need to raise money for him.”
As the situation with Sancho continues to play out, United could be left with an altogether undesirable option. Dan Marsh of The Mirror reported that the Red Devils have had talks held about terminating the youngster’s contract entirely. Ornstein described the move as “extremely costly,” and “a last resort.” It remains a problem that club officials have wanted to fix quickly, with a January sale not off the table.
Sancho’s Time at United
The attacker’s purchase from Borussia Dortmund was a great piece of business by United. After graduating from Manchester City’s youth academy and gaining experience with Die Schwarzgelben in the Bundesliga, his return to England seemed the logical move. His first two seasons in the English top flight saw loads of playing time, and a handful of impressive goals.
Things have begun to unravel for Sancho this year, however, with a disagreement between him and his manager leaving the winger on the bench. Still a skilled footballer, praise for the England international is not hard to find. Brazilian superstar Neymar once called him an “incredible player,” as the 23-year-old’s future remains in question heading into January.
