How Liverpool Have Lined-up Recently
Caoimhín Kelleher has started in goal following Alisson Becker’s hamstring injury.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been on hot form at right-back, with Virgil van Dijk at centre-back. Jöel Matip has started the past three league matches alongside him, but Ibrahima Konaté is largely preferred when fit. Kostas Tsimikas has played at left-back recently, with the exception of Joe Gomez for one game.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have had excellent debut season’s for Liverpool in midfield, whilst Ryan Gravenberch has played most of their recent league games. Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo have both featured when the Dutchman has required rest.
Mohamed Salah plays almost every game at right-wing, and he will be searching for his 200th goal for the club tonight. Darwin Núñez has recently started league games at striker, whilst Luis Díaz has come back into the side on the left, following a period of uncertainty and family crisis.

Liverpool’s Recent Form and Tactics
Most recently, Jürgen Klopp’s team continued their inconsistent form and performances with a 4-3 victory over Fulham, at home.
Liverpool were losing 3-2 until the 87th minute, when Endo found the back of the net.
Alexander-Arnold grabbed the winner less than two minutes later, but this uncertain victory highlighted clear flaws.
One of these flaws is their lack of clinical finishing: four big chances were missed, two from Núñez (a frequent offender) and two from Salah.
This has previously cost them points, at Luton Town for example, and will in future games if the issue is not resolved.

A positive to take from the match was the impressive performance of Alexander-Arnold, who scored a goal and had his free kick ricochet off Bernd Leno’s back – into the net.
In a match where stars like Salah did not really turn up, the right-back did, with 26 passes into the final third. In a post-match interview, he explained: “I’m a player that can, and wants to, dictate the game”.
He certainly has been dictating games, playing almost as a deep-lying playmaker: he created numerous chances for his forwards on the weekend.
For England he has even played as a midfielder; there is no limit to what he can achieve, given the technical ability he has shown just from full-back.
Can Sheffield United Pose A Real Threat?
The three goals scored by Fulham exemplified how an inferior side can exploit Liverpool’s weaknesses.
Whilst Liverpool have had the most direct attacks in the league, they have also conceded the second most. Cameron Archer and Gustavo Hamer may be able to threaten a tired defence on the counter-attack, and grab a goal against the run of play.
A home crowd that are willing to get behind the team, with a new manager, can certainly cause a shock result – as we almost saw last night by Luton Town.
Liverpool Injuries to Consider
Klopp revealed news on Matip, Alisson, and Diogo Jota in a press conference.
Matip was substituted with a knee injury against Fulham, and the gaffer has revealed: “It’s not good” and that it is “not a short one” but “the scan is not done yet”. Fortunately, Konaté seems to have now fully recovered from his muscle injury. The “huge player” should return to the lineup.

The duo of Alisson and Jota both picked up injuries against Manchester City. Jota was “running yesterday [Monday]” and Alisson is “closer but will definitely not be ready for tomorrow [Wednesday]”.
Positive news of the goalkeeper’s imminent return should fill fans with hope, as Kelleher’s performance on Sunday was not one of greatness.
Thiago Alcântara, Andy Robertson, and Stefan Bajčetić all remain out for the foreseeable future.
