As Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea continues to struggle through another Premier League campaign, it appears that they will be down a centre-back at the beginning of next year. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Trevoh Chalobah is on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

Bayern Interest
The Italian’s report stated that “Both Chelsea and Trevoh Chalobah expect to part ways in January.” At 24 years old, the Englishman wants more playing time heading into 2024. Loan spells with Lorient, Huddersfield Town and Ipswich Town provided him some experience before breaking into the Blues’ first team.

Chalobah played in 20 Premier League matches during the 2021/22 season. The 2022/23 campaign saw the centre-back improve that number and feature in 25 English top-flight fixtures. This year, though, it has become evident that he has few future prospects at the club. Multiple teams remain interested in the player who can also be utilized as a defensive midfielder, with Bayern Munich leading the charge.
Did Chalobah Fail to Live Up to the Hype?
The 24-year-old has a contract with Chelsea that would keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2028. He signed the six-year contract extension last Winter, and it also included an option to stay until 2029. This came on the heels of the defender’s successful breakthrough into Graham Potter’s first team.
Watch: Why the Todd Boehly project has failed
Todd Boehly, the owner of Chelsea, praised Chalobah as an “exceptional” young player. The defender continued to impress through the Blues’ Champions League campaign last year. Overjoyed by the extension, the young player stated “I’m over the moon to sign this contract” on the club’s official website.

Since then everything has gone downhill for the 24-year-old. Chalobah is no longer a first-choice defender under new manager Pochettino. To pursue more playing time he has seemingly agreed with the club that his tenure in London will come to an end this January transfer window.
