Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City have formally renewed the contract of Kyle Walker amidst interest from European giants in the summer transfer window.

Romano revealed that the English right-back’s has signed a new deal with the Sky Blues after speculation of a move to Bayern Munich cast doubt over his future. The electric right-back has signed an extension of three years, his contract will now expire in June 2026.

The Italian journalist wrote on his social media handle: “Kyle Walker signs new deal until June 2026 at Manchester City — set to be announced soon”.

Strong Interest from Bayern Munich – Transfer Was Imminent

The Bundesliga champions were interested in signing the 33-year-old from Pep Guardiola’s treble winners over the course of the summer. Walker’s experience, pace and defensive ability seemed to make him the perfect choice for the Bavarian club after Joao Cancelo’s season-long loan ended this summer. Thomas Tuchel and Pep Guardiola were both pushing to have the England international in their ranks for the 2023/24 season.

A transfer to Bundesliga champions was very close to materialising before a surprise U-turn. Walker was keen to join the Bavarians at one point and his entourage had entered in advanced negotiations with six-time Champions League winners. City had even shortlisted their choice of replacements with Bayern’s own Benjamin Pavard included as one of their top candidates.

Kyle Walker Comments on Manchester City Stay

Walker recently spoke to the BBC regarding his summer transfer saga and revealed that the Bayern transfer was close to happening. The ‘brilliant’ right back said in his interview: “Bayern? Decisions can be made, things can turn. It was close yes, but in football things can happen. It wasn’t meant to be”

The full-back is certain to remain a key player for Guardiola’s side. He has been key to their successes under the Spanish manager, who has praised him for being “fantastic” and performing consistently for the club over a span of several years.
