After injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, the Spaniard was the only left-back remaining in the squad and expected to play a big role in the coming days. However, rapid transfer activity from the Red Devils meant that they acquired a seasoned left-back in Reguilon close to the deadline day.
Erik ten Hag will presumably use Diogo Dalot as a backup left-back to the former Spurs man. The Portuguese has deputized in that role before in his career.
