Nadiem Amiri Leeds United ‘Deal is Off’ After Talks Break Down

Why Leeds United Were Considering Nadiem Amiri

One of the main reasons the Elland Road side were looking at Nadiem Amiri is the fact he fills a major gap in the squad. There is no true number ten in the side, with a distinct lack of creativity coming from the midfield. Whilst Georginio Rutter and Joel Piroe can both play in those roles at a push, neither considers it their most comfortable position. Amiri could also take the side up a level, coming from the Bundesliga and bringing an extra touch of class to the side.

In spite of steps towards signing the player, to the extent of getting an agreement with his club for him to fly to Yorkshire, there hasn’t been a deal agreed between the player and Leeds. This is a rapidly changing story, however, and could evolve in the coming hours and days.

Leeds United Transfer Business

The Whites are conducting a lot of transfer business in the final days of the window, with a range of different positions needing work. That includes, potentially most importantly, left-back. Junior Firpo is the squad’s only dedicated full-back on that side, with Sam Byram and Jamie Shackleton filling in whenever necessary. A more permanent replacement in that position would be ideal.

Outside that, the club may also consider a central midfielder. Depth in that position is incredibly thin, with Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu being the two sole consistent performers in that part of the pitch. Adding a strong central midfielder, and preferably one accustomed to ball retention, would be perfect for Daniel Farke’s system of play at the club.
