It was a fantastic week for Oxford United with Liam Manning’s side picking up maximum points on the road.
The U’s saw off two promotion rivals in Derby County and Barnsley to end the week joint at the top in League One.
Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: Double Away Day Victories
Win Against the Rams
Oxford began the week with an important victory on the road at promotion rivals, Derby County.
The U’s started the season slowly with two losses but have bounced back with back-to-back wins in the league.
And it wasn’t just the result that pleased fans at Pride Park, but also the performance. Liam Manning’s side looked comfortable on the ball and not phased when out of possession.
Mark Harris, who netted the winner against Carlisle United last weekend, scored an impressive brace before the Rams reduced the deficit late on, but Oxford held on for the three points.
Winger Leaves By Mutual Consent
On Friday, out-of-favour winger Yanic Wildschut left the club by mutual consent.
The 31-year-old, who penned a two-year deal last summer when he arrived from CSKA Sofia for an undisclosed fee, picked up an injury in pre-season and had to wait until December before making his debut, where he turned out 24 times for the U’s.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the U’s head coach said: “Yanic is an excellent pro and leaves on good terms.
“He wants to be playing games and we can’t guarantee that here so this allows him to find a new club and we wish him well.”
Third Win on the Bounce
Oxford’s week ended the way it began, with a victory on the road.
This time, the U’s saw off another potential promotion rival in Barnsley, with a 3-1 win at Oakwell.
Cameron Brannagan opened the scoring from 12 yards before an own goal shortly after the restart doubled Oxford’s lead.
The Tykes did reduce the deficit which resulted in a nervy ending, but Tyler Goodrham calmly added a third late on to earn another important three points.
Despite their opening day defeat at Cambridge United, the U’s are now joint top in League One with three wins from four games.
