Fabrizio Romano Confirms Amrabat Quotes Are Fake – ‘Yes to Manchester United’
Sofyan Amrabat Looking for Old Trafford Move
After news that Amrabat reportedly told Italian media: “I don’t know if I’m leaving… maybe I can stay here at Fiorentina”, it appeared that Manchester United may be further away from getting their target than was originally thought. This quote reportedly came after Fiorentina’s friendly match against Grosseto, with the midfielder “speaking” to Italian media.
However, Fabrizio Romano has since slammed these reports. The journalist said that he was told by very very reliable sources that this is not true. In fact, Amrabat did not say anything about his future, according to the Italian.

Romano went on to say that the Moroccan international wants to leave and wants to play for Manchester United. This is big news for Ten Hag because there had been rich bids from Saudi clubs that United wouldn’t have been able to match. The news that Amrabat has already said “yes to United” and that there is no problem on personal terms means that all that is left is to submit an official bid.
This official bid, however, is being delayed until Fred and Donny van de Beek leave. The midfielder, who has been described as a “defensive force“, is keen on the move to Old Trafford.
Why Do United Need Another Midfielder?
With Mason Mount already unveiled, and Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro mainstays in the team, fans may be questioning the need to spend more money on their already strong midfield. As previously mentioned, the club are waiting for the departure of either Fred or Donny van de Beek before they submit an official bid. However, even then, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay fill out the bench.
Whilst Mount is predominantly a central midfielder, he has also played as a wide playmaker for Chelsea. With Jadon Sancho and Antony significantly underperforming last season, Mount could be played in a more advanced role, allowing Amrabat to sit deep with Casemiro.
Regardless, United’s new midfielder will make a significant difference to their squad depth. The Red Devils played 62 games last season, and having Scott McTominay as a backup is not the most effective – especially in the latter stages of cup competitions.
Furthermore, with Casemiro turning 32 next year, he may be less able to play every minute. Amrabat can provide great cover and eventually become a replacement.
