American Rapper Plotting Tottenham Hotspur Takeover

Many names have been swirling around the conversations centred on a potential sale of North London club Tottenham. Following the charges of insider trading brought against their owner Joe Lewis, many have speculated the ageing businessman might choose to sell the club while he also attempts to clear his name.

The unlikely name to have just entered the Tottenham Hotspur takeover talk is none other than American rapper Jay-Z, according to one of his associates. The price of the purchase and the fate of the current owner will soon reveal if this reported interest is indeed serious.

Music Producer Has Deep Enough Pockets To Afford Tottenham Hotspur Takeover Bid

Born in Brooklyn as Shawn Carter, the former part-owner of the American basketball team the Brooklyn Nets has a net worth of $2.5 billion (£1.95 billion). The 53-year-old currently has ventures in the alcoholic, tobacco, music, and private jet industries, among many others. Not all of these investments are for-profit, but the musician pockets a decent sum each year from the most successful ones.

Carter had previously sought to invest in Tottenham’s North London rivals and fellow Premier League club Arsenal. Nothing ever came of the interest he showed in becoming part-owner of another sports team, but it seems the music producer has not resolved to give up on investing in an English club. An official bid will likely not be made until the outcome of the Lewis trial is announced, but meanwhile, the American could start bringing his finances together and consulting with advisors.

The Accusations Against Tottenham’s Current Owner

Charges filed against the Tottenham owner earlier this month have created a sense of uncertainty inside the club. The charges detail how Joe Lewis allegedly gave inside information regarding the businesses he owns or part-owns as a form of payment to various people in his life such as his love interests, limo drivers, and private jet pilots.
