Arsenal Getting Transfer Business Done Early

Like their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal seem to be getting much of their business done in an efficient manner early in the transfer window.

Mikel Arteta’s side have already made one of their marquee signings for this off-season, completing a move for now-ex-Chelsea player Kai Havertz.

The German international’s move was announced on Wednesday evening, allowing the Gunners to turn their attention to another big Premier League swoop.

In his latest YouTube video, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano dropped a major update on the Declan Rice to Arsenal situation.

Romano told fans early on Thursday morning: “During the night, [an] agreement [was] almost reached between Arsenal and West Ham, so all parties are now very relaxed: Arsenal, West Ham, and also the player because there is an agreement on the fee. £100 million plus £5 million in add-ons, a club record fee for Arsenal, and a historical fee for English football.”

“What does it mean for the here we go? It’s just a matter of hours probably. It’s just about the payment terms.”

“Arsenal want to pay [the fee] in four years, and West Ham want the £100 million guaranteed fee to be paid in 18 months. So it’s about this detail, and the deal will be done.”

Arsenal Subject to ‘English Tax’ in Declan Rice Deal

While Rice is undoubtedly a top-class player, £100 million is a lot to pay, regardless of his quality.

This has partly been caused by a so-called “English tax” caused by a number of factors which are affecting not only the Rice deal, but also Manchester United’s pursuit of Mason Mount among others.

Last Word on Football‘s latest YouTube video clarifies why this is happening.
