The clock is ticking on the David de Gea contract situation with the Spanish keeper’s deal with United set to expire at the end of this month. Football insider Fabrizio Romano has issued an interesting update on the situation on his YouTube channel.
Strange Situation Between De Gea and Manchester United
Romano’s Update on the De Gea Situation
Romano referenced the situation as being “really strange”, confirming that the details on a new contract have been almost done since the end of March.
Yet no agreement has been signed.
De Gea is ready to commit his future to Manchester United, but Romano says that the holdup is coming up from the club’s side.
The Spaniard has been at United for 12 years now and has made over 500 appearances for the Red Devils, but Erik ten Hag’s style of play calls for a goalkeeper who is comfortable playing out from the back.
De Gea has made a number of mistakes over the years trying to do that, which seemingly opens the door for his exit and a replacement number one goalkeeper at Old Trafford. Dean Henderson is reportedly out of the running after frustrating the manager, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

United Informed on Inter Milan’s Andre Onana
One player who has often been linked with Manchester United is former Ajax man and current Inter Milan keeper, Andre Onana.
Romano confirmed that no offers had been made, but United are being kept informed. If United choose to replace De Gea, it won’t be cheap, with Inter Milan currently valuing Onana at £51.5 million. This would represent quite a profit considering he signed from Ajax on a free transfer.
