Tottenham Hotspur Fans ‘Do Not Want’ Title-Winning Manager at Club

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou with medal

Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to appoint current Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as their next manager, according to Dan Kilpatrick of the Evening Standard. The former Australian international, who has won the Scottish Premiership twice so far in his spell with The Bhoys, is strongly admired by the Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy. Celtic won the Scottish Premiership this season, finishing 7 points above second placed Rangers. They’ll also have the luxury of Champions League football again next year, something that Spurs can’t offer. However, Postecoglou might fancy a new challenge in England’s top flight. Spurs fans, on the other hand, do not seem to fancy Postecoglou at their club.

What Can Postecoglou Offer Spurs?

Experience, for one thing. The 57-year-old has previously spent time managing in Australia, Greece and Japan, winning the National Soccer League 4 times, the J1 League in 2019, as well as the AFC Asian Cup at international level with Australia. This rather fresh and unique catalogue of football experience and culture could potentially benefit Tottenham, who look like they have run out of ideas after finishing 8th in the Premier League this season. The Lilywhites were previously linked with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, as well as former boss Mauricio Pochettino, however the latter instead chose to move to Chelsea.

What Would Ange Postecoglou’s Priorities Be?

Keeping Harry Kane at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would potentially be priority one for whoever walks through the door as manager next month. The club’s all-time record goal scorer is essential to any success Spurs are likely to see. The England captain scored 30 goals this season, finishing just behind Erling Haaland with 36 goals. A new goalkeeper could also be a fundamental step in the right direction for Tottenham, as Hugo Lloris looks likely to leave after 11 years with the club. Spurs have recently been linked with Valencia shot stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Spurs Fans Hit Back at Postecoglou Links

Some Spurs fans are not happy about the links to Postecoglou, at all. Many are taking to Twitter to voice their concerns about the direction that the club is going in.

Even a few of the cooler-headed fans recognise that Postecoglou could be an underwhelming appointment at Tottenham.
