According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur right-bank Djed Spence looks to be on the move to Ligue 1 outfit Rennes with a medical now completed.
Romano reports that the move will be a loan deal and will not contain any option for the French club to make the move permanent as the 22-year-old Spence is confident in his future in North London.

Spence’s Spurs Struggles
Following an impressive loan spell from Middlesbrough to Nottingham Forest, where he helped the club earn promotion to the Premier League, the 22-year-old earned a move to Antonio Conte’s Tottenham in the summer of 2022. However, since then Spence has only been used sparingly for Spurs, making only six appearances in all competitions.

With the imminent arrival of fellow right-back Pedro Porro from Sporting, a move away from the capital seemed likely for the England U21 international. Whereas most would have predicted a move to a Premier League outfit, Spence seems keen on moving to France with Rennes instead.
Much Needed Game Time
The move should give Spence the playing time he needs at this stage of his career, whilst also offering him the opportunity to showcase his talents and make a case for an improved role upon returning to Tottenham. The London-born defender will likely look at the career of fellow Spurs full-back and England U21’s teammate Ryan Sessegnon for inspiration.

Sessegnon was another highly-rated youngster that was signed by Spurs before being sent out on loan abroad to gain experience. The 22-year-old has since made a name for himself under Conte and has made 16 appearances for the Italian this season. Therefore, the club will likely be hoping for a similar trajectory for Spence once he returns from his spell in France.
