After a great deal of speculation, multiple sources including Fabrizio Romano are now claiming that Everton have accepted a proposal to sell Anthony Gordon, with Newcastle United reportedly striking a deal to sign the 21-year-old for £40 million.
The player did not report for training for three days following the sacking of Frank Lampard. It is understood he was required to submit a transfer request before Everton would sanction the deal.

Magpies Add to Exciting Attacking Line
Speaking to the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer praised Gordon’s “fearless attitude“. Shearer also references his pace, skill, and determination in his review of the Premier League’s rising stars. Fearlessness and determination are traits that will appeal to the Newcastle hierarchy, with these being essential aspects required to start matches for Eddie Howe.

As recently as last summer, Everton refused to sell Gordon for up to £60 million amid interest from Chelsea. Gordon’s indifferent performances this season in a struggling Toffees side has contributed to the lowering of this asking price. However, Everton’s financial predicament has been the major factor in the cut-price deal.
Gordon Looking to Improve Form in New Setting
Although he has not hit the heights many expected so far this season, Gordon’s attitude should help him fight through this spell. He also brings versatility that will help him to settle into the side. He can play on either wing or through the middle, and he has the ability to create chances for other players or for himself.

It is always likely to be more difficult to perform in a struggling team. By contrast, Newcastle are flying in the league and have their sights firmly set on European qualification, and are well placed in the battle for the top 4. While it may take time to adapt to Howe’s style of play, a happy and successful environment could be the catalyst to improve his form.
Everton to Receive ‘Vital’ Funds From Anthony Gordon Sale
Everton find themselves in the midst of a desperate relegation battle. They survived last season by just four points, and are two points adrift of safety in the current campaign. Although losing Gordon is a blow, the funds raised can be used to invest in other areas of the squad.
However, there may be bigger trouble lurking for the Merseyside club off the pitch. Owner Farhad Moshiri has received a considerable backlash recently, with criticisms including managerial appointments and transfer policy. Following fan protests, there were rumours that Moshiri would put the club up for sale, however, he denied this in an interview with Sky Sports. The failure to see any reasonable return on a number of transfers in recent years, along with the estimated £500 million cost for their new stadium, have left the club financially vulnerable. Relegation, and the loss of Premier League money from TV rights, could be catastrophic for the future of the club.
