Tottenham Hotspur are close to completing the signing of target and promising Sporting CP defender Pedro Porro, according to Fabrizio Romano. It has also been revealed that the right-back has already agreed personal terms with Spurs until 2028 and the “payment terms are the final point of discussion.” Sporting have cited Tariq Lamptey as a potential replacement as the Porro deal is at the final stages.

Tottenham Hotspur Target: Is Pedro Porro the Answer to Solve Spurs’ Calamitous Defending?

Romano confirmed in a previous tweet that Spurs are offering £32.5 million fixed plus add-ons and have discussed the possibility of including an unnamed player in the deal. Porro looks set to follow in the footsteps of Arnaut Danjuma, who sealed a loan move to North London after rejecting the advances of Everton.

Spurs have lost seven of their last 15 games in all competitions, conceding 25 goals and only keeping three clean sheets. A reliable defensive reinforcement will brighten Antonio Conte’s mood as he chases consecutive top-four finishes with the Lilywhites.

Porro has appeared 24 times for Sporting CP this season, including a 2-0 victory over Spurs in their Champions League group stage game last September. He has registered three goals and 11 assists, playing on the right in a back four and back five. The Spanish international offers versatility and defensive solidarity that Spurs have lacked this season.

What Does This Transfer Mean for Spurs’ Other Right Backs?

Conte has made no secret of his displeasure at the signing of Djed Spence. The former Nottingham Forest player is yet to start a game this season and has been linked with a January exit.

Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have shared the right-back mantle but both have been questioned for their consistency. Spurs have conceded the sixth most goals in the Premier League this campaign and have been exposed on the right-hand side of their defence.

The 23-year-old will bring a youthful dynamism and will come back to England with a point to prove. He signed for Manchester City in 2019 for £11 million but failed to make a league appearance. He could prove to be an integral member of a side that are well within touching distance of a coveted top-four finish if they improve their patchy form.
