Manchester United youngster Charlie Savage awaits substitution ahead of his first-team debut

Manchester United youngster Charlie Savage has ‘chosen’ to join Forest Green Rovers on loan, BBC Sport’s Simon Stone reports.

Charlie. son of former Leicester City and Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage, who himself came through the ranks at Old Trafford, will spend the remainder of the season with the League One side.

The 19-year-old has featured for Wales at various age groups up to U21 and looks to have a bright future. This will be his first move out on loan from the Red Devils.

Savage is literally starting at the bottom with this loan – Forest Green sit bottom of League One on 21 points, four points below safety.

They have already dipped into the January transfer market as they look to mount a fight for survival in the second half of the season.

Just last night, they added striker Tyrese Omotoye from Championship outfit Norwich City. Earlier in the window they made five signings; Fiachra Pagel from Drogheda United, Jordan Garrick from Swansea City, Jamie Robson from Lincoln City, Ross Doohan from Tranmere Rovers and Amadou Bakayoko from Bolton Wanderers.

They also dipped into the loan market, adding Brandon Cooper, also from Swansea.

The Manchester United youngster debuted as a late substitute v Young Boys BSC in the Champions League group stage last season, when given the opportunity at Old Trafford by then-interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Like his dad, Savage is primarily a central midfielder and will look to benefit immensely from his first real taste of senior football.

There are also reports, from Fabrizio Romano, that former Manchester United academy teammate Charlie McCann, now at Rangers, may join him at The New Lawn stadium this month.

Savage is said to have ‘chosen’ Forest Green Rovers over a number of options.
