Birmingham City are set to sign Manchester United’s Hannibal Mejbri on a season-long loan, according to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell.
This will be a first loan spell for the 19-year-old, who is already an international footballer for Tunisia, capped 16 times.

Contract Extension Option Considered
Before agreeing to send Mejbri out on loan to the Championship side, the report states Manchester United considered extending his contract. However, he will now depart without extending his stay at Old Trafford. That shouldn’t be too much of an issue for the Red Devils as the Tunisian midfielder last signed a new deal in March 2021.
He was given his Manchester United debut by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as an 82nd-minute substitute in a 2-1 Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in May 2021.

Mejbri then featured twice under interim manager Ralf Rangnick last season, first showing fight from the bench in an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Liverpool before starting v Crystal Palace, a 1-0 loss.
Rangnick has described Mejbri as ‘highly-talented’.

Loan to Birmingham City
He is yet to feature in a matchday squad under new manager Erik ten Hag and will use this loan with Birmingham City to develop further.
The midfielder has struggled with his discipline in the past, seeing red on three occasions in his United academy career, including in the EFL Trophy last season v Lincoln City.
Birmingham could do with a talented addition like Hannibal Mejbri. They’ve lacked some spark this season, sitting 21st in the Championship with just one win to their name.
The Blues are reported to have a good working relationship with Manchester United after the successful loans of Tahith Chong and Teden Mengi in the last campaign.
