One of Manchester United‘s three goalkeeper targets has been revealed by Fabrizio Romano. Borussia Monchengladbach’s Swiss stopper, Yann Sommer, has drawn interest from the Red Devils. United are looking to strengthen their goalkeeper options after Dean Henderson’s loan move to Nottingham Forest earlier this window and a poor start to the season for current number one David de Gea.
Romano states: “Manchester United are interested in Yan Sommer as backup goalkeeper, one of three options in the list.
“Sommer has new contract bid [deal until 2025] from Borussia ‘Gladbach with chances to stay. There’s also interest from other Premier League clubs.”

Why Yann Sommer Is an Ideal Perfect Fit
Erik ten Hag’s start at Manchester United has been awful, to say the least. The players do not seem to be able to adapt to his previously successful style of play, leading to poor performances and schoolboy errors in their opening two Premier League fixtures, leaving them at the foot of the Premier League table.
Their ability to be able to play out from the back has been woeful, starting with David de Gea who, along with the rest of the squad, will not be happy with his performances so far this season.
Yann Sommer offers manager Ten Hag a different option and is a better ball player than the Spaniard. Last season, Sommer passes progression yards per 90 were 519.8 compared with De Gea’s 278.5. He also attempted more passes per 90 and had a better pass success rate per 90 than the current number one at Old Trafford.

He also completed over four times as many defensive actions outside the box which will be important to Ten Hag who wants to play with a high line. Along with these impressive attributes the Swiss goalkeeper also had a similar save percentage and a better cross-stop percentage.
The 33-year-old has played 326 games for Monchengladbach and is capped 74 times by Switzerland.
Manchester United Being Rivalled for the Swiss’ Service
Romano also stated that other Premier League clubs are challenging United for the goalkeeper’s signature. For the Red Devils, it will be an important case study to see if they can still attract top players to their club in what has been described as the worst time at the club in 42 years by Gary Neville.
United need to see new arrivals in the next few weeks, with many players being linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
